Of course. Imagine if Brit Hume, or Shep Smith had said "cotton pickin'" when speaking of the President.
It is fun watching the commentors over at HuffPo twist themselves up in knots explaining why racist comments aren't racist when uttered by someone they like:
Ok, I think this is a bit much. It's a phrase and, obviously, Rick didn't use it in that context.Who cares. These are common words. Who cares. Thin skinned people, who throw around the red neck words all the time. Cracker being used all the time offends no one. WHY? They are only words. Sanchez, being Hispanic, must surely be racist, eh?I think way too many people have a large hair across their rear ends. We spend way too much time worrying about this kind of crap.Slip of the tongue..I can assure you that the Pres..nor anyone in his family has ever picked cotton..he is from Hawaii...his father is from Nigeria..the only cotton the Pres. knows about are on his behind..Its all about context, while at the Dr.'s office yesterday the tv happen to be on CNN an i was watching his segment. I took no offense to it because of the context of the conversation. It was just a stupid error caught by really sensitive people. If you watched the whole segment he was actually defending the President.I thought the same thing. I agree with Rick. We use it in the south when you don't want to use an expletive. It's like saying, "He's the freaking President..." instead of the other.
This is a non starter. Maybe insensitive, but by no means meant to be disrespectful.
