Gibson guitars got raided by the Feds, for using unfinished East Indian Rosewood in some of their products. You know who else uses unfinished East Indian Rosewood in their guitars? Gibson's competitor. Did they get raided too?
Nope.
Keep in mind that using the wood breaks no United States laws, but Indian laws. Keep in mind also that the authorities in India had nothing to do with this raid. So why did the raid happen, Mr. Obama?
The Federal Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. has suggested that the use of wood from India that is not finished by Indian workers is illegal, not because of U.S. law, but because it is the Justice Department’s interpretation of a law in India. (If the same wood from the same tree was finished by Indian workers, the material would be legal.) This action was taken without the support and consent of the government in India.
Here's hoping Gibson has some legal standing to sue AG Holder.
