During the run-up to the vote on Obamacare, we heard tale after tale of woe about how college-aged kids went without health insurance, because they just couldn't afford it. Obama made it possible for those kids to now be covered until age 26 on their parents policies.
Problem solved!
One nagging little question?
If college-aged kids are so destitute, how can it be that 56% of 18-24 year olds making under $15,000 have smartphones (43% of 25-34 year olds making under $15k also have smartphones)? Forget the initial cost of the device, what does the monthly service/data package cost? And couldn't those dollars have been used to buy health insurance?
Many of the college-aged kids who didn't have coverage prior to Obamacare were in that position because they chose to be. When the monthly budget asked the question "smartphone or health insurance", more chose something other than insurance.
I'd be curious to learn what percentage of that 18-24 demographic also owns a motor vehicle.
Priorities, folks.
