When the Obama Administration (not Chrysler, mind you, but Obama) began closing Chrysler dealerships around the Nation, a few voices were grumbling that there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to close some dealerships, and not others.  There were also a few voices that noticed that there were Republican supporters being shuttered, while Democrat supporters have fared much better.  More details here.

Deja Vu all over again..

The Stanley Cup Finals this year will look a lot like they did last year.  Detroit wins Game Five in OT to earn a trip back to defend Lord Stanley's Cup. 

I'm hoping for a repeat of last year's series, with the Wings hoisting the trophy for a 12th time.

The Winged Wheel were able to pull off the win with several stars not in uniform.  The Finals begin on Saturday, with three games in four days.  We'll see how deep the Wings bench is, and how much gas they have left in the tank.  Expect a tougher, more mature Penguins team.  They got a taste last year, and want the Cup.

Remember back in college?

Towards the end of the semester, you had a chance to review your professors, and grade them on how they ran their classes.  Sure, a few students would mark the teacher down, and a few would inflate how good they were, but on the whole, the results were pretty accurate.

I wonder how lawyers that tried cases in front of Samual Alito and Sonia Sotomayor "graded" the judges that they appeared before?

Their "grades" reflect what has been circulating since Obama's selection: Sotomayor is a good judge.  "Good" shouldn't be the benchmark for a Supreme Court Justice.  "Exceptional", "Brilliant", and "Outstanding" are qualities that should be a requirement.

A double-standard in regards to qualifications..

Thus, the media and Democrats seem to find successful Hispanic attorney Sotomayor much more "empathetic" than successful Hispanic attorney Miguel Estrada.

After aggressively blocking Estrada's nomination to a federal appeals court during Bush's first term solely on the grounds that he is Hispanic and was likely headed for the Supreme Court -- according to Senate Democrat staff memos -- now Democrats have the audacity to rave that Sotomayor will be the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice!

If Sotomayor is not more empathetic than Estrada, liberals at least consider her more Hispanic -- an interesting conclusion inasmuch as Sotomayor was born in New York and Estrada was born in Honduras.

Forty-four of 48 Senate Democrats voted to filibuster Estrada's nomination to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, with congressman and professional Hispanic Raul Grijalva assuring them that just because "he happens to be named 'Estrada' does not give him a free ride."

The White House issues a warning to Sotomayor's critics:

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs issued a pointed warning to opponents of Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court nomination Wednesday, urging critics to measure their words carefully during a politically charged confirmation debate.

“I think it is probably important for anybody involved in this debate to be exceedingly careful with the way in which they’ve decided to describe different aspects of this impending confirmation,” Gibbs said.

He was replying to a question from CBS’s Chip Reid about a blog post by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich accusing Sotomayor of imposing identity politics on the bench and declaring: “A white man racist nominee would be forced to withdraw. A Latina woman racist should also withdraw.”

“I think we're satisfied that, when the people of America and the people of the Senate get a chance to look at more than just the blog of a former lawmaker… they'll come to the same conclusion that the president did” about Sotomayor’s qualifications, Gibbs replied.

As I have stated before, elections have consequences.  But that doesn't mean that a person who has had 60% of her judgements overruled gets a free pass.  This position is a lifetime appointment.  Bush neglected to realize that with Harriet Miers, Obama has forgotten that with Ms. Sotomayor.

 

Last time I checked, 60% got you a "D" in school.  I'm sure she is a nice woman, and a fine litigator, but is she the most qualified person for this important position?

A question..

The Supreme Court of California has said that gay marriage is not a right, but will allow those that were married when it was a law, to stay married.

Makes sense, as those that performed those marriages then were following what they thought to be lawful.

So doesn't the same thing apply to those folks that carried out the "enhanced interrogation techniques" approved by lawyers higher up the food chain?  Weren't they doing what they were told (at the time) was legal?

I would assume that if you think those gay marriages should stand, you also feel the folks that carried out EIT's should be absolved of any wrongdoing, correct?

And here I thought that 95% of Americans were going to get a tax break under Obama..

The Obama Administration is considering a VAT of 10% that would hit all Americans, especially the poor:

A VAT is a tax on the transfer of goods and services that ultimately is borne by the consumer. Highly visible, it would increase the cost of just about everything, from a carton of eggs to a visit with a lawyer. It is also hugely regressive, falling heavily on the poor. But VAT advocates say those negatives could be offset by using the proceeds to pay for health care for every American -- a tangible benefit that would be highly valuable to low-income families.

Liberals dispute that notion. "You could pay for it regressively and have people at the bottom come out better off -- maybe. Or you could pay for it progressively and they'd come out a lot better off," said Bob McIntyre, director of the nonprofit Citizens for Tax Justice, which has a health financing plan that targets corporations and the rich.

Here's a radical idea, Mr. Obama: why not slash some of the massive entitlement programs?

If George W. Bush had given Tony Blair a set of inexpensive and useless (to Tony Blair's UK video formatting) DVDs, when Tony Blair had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?
 
If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have approved?
 
If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?
 
If George W. Bush had visited  Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?
 
If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?
 
If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?
 
If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?
 
If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?
 
So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? 

Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 10 weeks -- so you'll have three years and nine-and-a-half months to come up with an answer.

Jake gets his chance, version 2.0..

Jake Fox gets called up to the Majors from Des Moines.  He's been in the Cubs organization for awhile, and had a brief trip to the Windy City a few years back.  Fox has been tearing it up in the Minors, crushing the ball, and near the top in just about every offensive category.

He's also the husband of one of my co-workers.

Need a favor.

See, I know You and David Stern and 97 percent of the cable-ready world want Kobe vs. LeBron in the NBA Finals. You want Your Nike puppets and Your Jack on the sideline and Your Chosen One. I get that.

But just this once can You think about us poor, huddled Denver Nuggets fans? Do You have any idea what You've put us through?

Moses wandered the desert for 40 years? Pah. That's Club Med compared to us. For 41 years, we've eaten sand and washed it down with tall glasses of bile. At least Moses had manna. All we ever got was crayon jerseys.

In nine years of ABA play, and 32 more in the NBA, we've never won a title. We've never been to a single NBA Finals. The Lakers have been to 29! We once lost a record 23 straight games. One year, we only won 11! In military terms, we are the Iraqi Air Force.

Maybe this will give You an idea: We have a street in Denver named for a Nuggets trainer, but none for a Nuggets player.
