This was the biggest issue that you saw in all those ads leading up to the election right?  Net neutrality?  Wasn't that the number one thing on people's minds last Tuesday?

Good to see the President respond to his constituients.

I'm just curious about one thing - if the only to way to make sure the Internet remains "pure" is by letting the Feds control it, how come it hasn't been "polluted" already?  What's stopped "powerful interests" from already doing exactly what the President is telling us will happen if the FCC isn't in charge?

This guy was really pissed about how unprepared the USA was to deal with "bird flu", and took the Bush Administration to task for it:

The failure to prepare for emergencies can have devastating consequences. We learned that lesson the hard way after Hurricane Katrina. This nation must not be caught off-guard when faced with the prospect of an avian flu pandemic. The consequences are too high.

The flyways for migratory birds are well-established. We know that avian flu will likely hit the United States in a matter of time. With the regular flu season coming up shortly, conditions will be favorable for reassortment of the avian flu virus with the annual flu virus. Such reassortment could lead to a mutated virus that could be transmitted efficiently between humans, which is the last condition needed for pandemic flu.

The question is will we be ready when that happens? Let’s make sure that answer is yes. I urge my colleagues in the Senate and the House to push this Administration to take the action needed to prevent a catastrophe that we have not seen during our lifetimes.”

The current Ebola outbreak is significantly worse than H5N1 was.  Where is that young Senator now, to hold this Administration's feet to the fire?

Here's some news that won't get reported on prior to the mid-term elections:

Winners and losers of finalized CMS automatic re-enrollment policy: CMS finalized a HealthCare.gov policy that will automatically re-enroll individuals into their current plan with the same subsidies if they do not choose a new plan by December 15 (open enrollment begins on November 15).  Consumers who didn't authorize the federal government to check their updated tax information, will be re-enrolled in the same plan without subsidies.  States run exchanges have some flexibility to develop their own processes to help consumers renew or re-enroll in exchange plans. 

The policy will benefit insurers and hospitals by maintaining insurer population stability, reduce administrative costs and decrease the potential for uncompensated care.  The policy, however, will likely create a PR challenge for Democrats as rates go up in many of the plans in which people are automatically re-enrolled.   Moreover, the policy will reduce comparison insurance shopping by consumers.

Can you imagine seeing your premiums at a certain level for the last 12 months, finding a new job, and then seeing your payment skyrocket, with the loss of the Federal subsidy?

This law is a nightmare.

The report reveals the apprehension numbers ranging from 2010 through July 2014. It shows that most of the human smuggling from Syria and Albania into the U.S. comes through Central America. The report also indicates the routes individuals from North Africa and the Middle East take into the European Union, either to illegally migrate there or as a possible stop in their journey to the United States. The data are broken down further into the specific U.S. border sectors where the apprehensions and contact occurred.

Among the significant revelations are that individuals from nations currently suffering from the world’s largest Ebola outbreak have been caught attempting to sneak across the porous U.S. border into the interior of the United States. At least 71 individuals from the three nations affected by the current Ebola outbreak have either turned themselves in or been caught attempting to illegally enter the U.S. by U.S. authorities between January 2014 and July 2014.

As of July 20, 2014, 1,443 individuals from China were caught sneaking across the porous U.S. border this year alone, with another 1,803 individuals either turning themselves in to U.S. authorities at official ports of entry, or being caught attempting to illegally enter at the ports of entry. This comes amid a massive crackdown by Chinese authorities of Islamic terrorists in the Communist nation.

Twenty-eight individuals from Pakistan were caught attempting to sneak into the U.S. this year alone, with another 211 individuals either turning themselves in or being caught at official ports of entry.

Thirteen Egyptians were caught trying to sneak into the U.S. this year alone, with another 168 either turning themselves in or being caught at official ports of entry.

Four individuals from Yemen were caught attempting to sneak into the U.S. by Border Patrol agents in 2014 alone, with another 34 individuals either turning themselves in or being caught attempting to sneak through official ports of entry. Yemen is not the only nation with individuals who pose terror risks to the U.S. that the report indicates travel from. The failed nation of Somalia, known as a hotbed of Islamic terror activity, was also referenced in the report. Four individuals from Somalia were caught trying to sneak into the U.S. by Border Patrol agents in 2014. Another 290 either turned themselves in or were caught attempting to sneak in at official ports of entry. This reporter previously covered the issue of illegal immigration into the U.S. from Somalia and other nations in the Horn of Africa.

Those are the few that got caught.  How many others made it in?

My State begins to issue driver licenses to illegal immigrants, and some are angry over the amount of time it takes to get one:

When the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles started accepting appointments from foreign nationals online July 1, it received as many as 107,500 page views an hour, crashing the system for several days. The DMV expects to process 9,551 applicants through September.

“We are disappointed the department will only give licenses to those who are here unlawfully at five offices and by appointment only,” said Denise Maes, public policy director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado. “They can only take appointments 90 days in advance and all of those are booked.”

Here's the part that made me do a double take:

The bill’s passage capped a multiyear effort by immigrant rights advocates in Colorado to secure a law that would allow those in the country illegally to apply for a drivers license.

“We’ve been working on this for more than three years now,” said Tania Valenzuela, a 24-year-old housekeeper who served on a committee that failed in 2011 to collect enough signatures to put a measure on the ballot allowing immigrants to obtain licenses.

“We thought it would roll out well but that hasn’t been the case,” said Valenzuela, who immigrated to Colorado illegally from Chihuahua, Mexico, 16 years ago and drives without a license. “It will take a few years for everybody to secure an appointment and that’s not acceptable -- it’s the law.”

Catch that?  The person who came to this Country 16 years ago - breaking the law in the process, and breaks the law every day when she drives her car - is upset that the law isn't being followed.
